Week 2 Preview

A sneak preview into week 2 of the hockey season.

1st XI

With the fantastic achievement of 18 of our boys selected to represent East District at the U16 and U18 interdistrict tournament our 1st XI won't be in action this weekend. Our 2nd XI and Development Team might not be so young or quick either!

2nd XI - Rottenrow Away 11am @ Auchenhowie

Newly promoted Rottenrow will be a challenging fixture for the 2s, when they played each other a couple of seasons ago it was really difficult for the 2s to break them down. New recruits David Ellis and Rory Manson will provide more national league experience especially in the absence of Rob Barr who is at a wedding this week.

Director of Hockey Rob Barr said 'I'm gutted to be missing this game, we have selected a really strong team and I am looking forward to the BBC Sport live updates'

3rd XI - Hillhead 11am Fettes
The 3s got off to a disappointing start to the season against Western. Captain Gordon Allan will look to rally his troops for Hillhead's visit.

Hillhead had a phenomenal result beating Kelburne 7-0 last Saturday, so it will be really interesting to see how the 3s fair. They have a large and experienced squad for this home game and hopefully that will pay dividends and something can be grabbed from the game.

Development XI - ESM 2s Fettes 1.30pm
The development team may not have many youngsters in the side this week due to the tournament but they will still have their usual lack of pace and solidarity in the centre of the pitch. Last week the team did really well away to Fidra winning 5-2 so looking for more of the same again.

5XI - no game

The 5s have no game.Rumours are that the 'galaticos' are still on a recruitment drive and Jon Broomhead has headed to LA to try and find more talent.

6th XI - Inverleith EA 4:30pm

Bouncebackability is the call of the day after last week's tough game against Kinross. After watching Inverleith against our 5s I think that this could be a really good game and hopefully the 6s will pick up points.

7th XI - Alloa 3pm EA

After an extended pre-season the 7s are playing Alloa. New captain Damien Behan is in charge and has lost a couple of players - Paul Diamond and Mark Pennycook - to the galacticos but they have also recruited well in the summer.

8th XI - Inverleith Dev EA 4:30pm

The 8s are well stocked this weekend. JHJ leading the line up front and Josh Stokes will hopefully be back in goals after a mishap with goalie kit last week. By all accounts the game against Carnegie was good - a 2-0 loss but a respectable performance.

Good luck to all teams this weekend and I'm sure we will see most back at the clubhouse for a couple jars afterwards.
