We (like a few clubs ) are having regular issues sourcing umpires this season. This is in part due to non playing umpires retiring since the pandemic hit in 2020 and no new umpires coming through the ranks since we had such a long break away from Hockey.

In addition our current Umpire Sec. does not have the time to continue due to commitments outside of Grange Hockey.

We are therefore calling out to the entire club to help
a) appoint a new Umpire Secretary. It requires approximately a 1-2 hours worth of effort each week to communicate the fixtures/requirement and request/find cover. It would also require an amount of proactive effort to find new umpires and encourage player participation. The more umpires we have on record, the fewer weeks people have to commit to the process

b) please return to umpiring if you can. Whether still playing or a non player, we really need your assistance to continue to field 7 Men's teams each week. There are a number of incentives and players are very appreciative of umpires since the return of hockey.

There are a few volunteers on the committee that put in several hours each week to ensure we continue training, have pitches & field teams each week. If you are not part of this then umpiring is a great way you can give back to the club. You would get support & training and also an incentive for each game you umpire. We encourage and support getting badged.
