It was another big game this Saturday for the 2s, The purple robes away.

I decided not to go out last night and instead concentrate on some much needed studying. So no booze but instead ate my body weight in biscuits and crisps - not good preparation for a hockey game!

Having lost the league by one point to them last season everyone was keen to win the battle.

And a battle it was. Inverleith had lost a lot of players during the summer but played with the same pace and attitude as they had done previously.

Without a couple of key players we brought in some experience to make sure we had good structure and get the win.

We started quite poorly not connecting our passes and not able to play with the style we have been used to so far this season. Inverleith had a lot of possession at the back but we limited their chances of getting over the half way line with good structure and some agricultural tackling.

With a few minutes to go in the first half we broke the deadlock, Dave shooting from the edge of the D that the goalie saved and kicked it into the middle of the D, again Dave was the first to react, he pounced on the ball and finished cooly underneath the goalkeeper.

HT and inspirational speech time for Mr Batchelor. Individual responsibility was the key. We needed to work harder and play far more passing and simple hockey.

We started the second half well connecting our passes and really limiting inverleith's chances.

We still didn't create as much as normal with our final pass not quite reaching the target.

With 15 minutes to go Tom had the ball on the edge of the D with his back to goal and two defenders behind him. He laid it back to Andy G who executed a reverse stick trust pass to Collister who finished at the back post.

A good well worked goal that we really deserved. We maintained our structure for the remaining time and ensured Inverleith weren't given a sniff of getting one back - like they have done over the last two seasons where we have been 5-1 up and drawn 5-5 twice!

A 2-0 victory, a clean sheet and 8 from 8.

With other results going our way (Uni 3s drawing with Kelburne) we need to continue our winning ways and continue to further the gap between us and the rest of the league.

Uni 3s next week and a target of 9 from 9.
