Oof, that was 70 minutes I'll never get back in my life. It's seldom that players have trudged from the pitch questioning why they were there in the first place, but today's performance was one of those rare days.
Hillhead had beaten us by a similar margin at their place in the season-opener, but we had been playing well recently and selected a strong side.
We actually competed well in the first half, weathering their domination of the period, but countering well when we had the opportunity. Three broken-down PCs from them to our one field goal at the break. A fair reflection possibly, but we did not feel out of this game at all.
The second 35-minutes took the wind from our sails entirely as the ball was returned from our forward forays with more intensity and better resolve. Four goals unopposed and little to show for ourselves.
Sometimes you ask your players to get games like this; a freak result, a one-off. We couldn't afford to. Repeat performances like that would see us drawn all too quickly into a relegation struggle.
