A Side order of Grits
By Gordon Allan
We came, we saw, we got soaked (& a win).
While most squads around Grange had full squads, it was left to only 11 players to make the trip through to Stepps Playing Fields to take on who we believed to be the biggest competition in the league.
The heavens opened as we reached Harthill (as usual) and set the mood for the day...
After a brief warm up and drenching, the game started. Pre-match strategy was to not press as high as we normally do and to try reserve energy to last the full 70 minutes. This strategy lasted all of 8 minutes after we successfully converted our first goal from a penalty corner... At 1-0, Rottenrow then upped the pressure and we had a game on our hands.
Opening goal from Steve continuing our high success rate at Short corners
Dave's defensive deflection onto the top corner of the goalpost saving giving away a Long Corner (& a goal ;) )
Tario's wonder (double) save.
Ben's (reverse) shot that was disallowed despite being hit from within the D
Defensive line-up successfully soaking up 40-50 minutes of high intensity attacks from the opposition
Steve's 2nd Goal 4 minutes from the end to ensure a 3-2 Victory
Steve Swanton x 2
Huge amount of effort was put in by every individual playing and after the resolve shown, look forward to taking this team into the cup next week !
