A comfortable 2-0 Win

There was a lot of anticipation in the air for this cup fixture. Not knowing the strength of the squad that Western would send through, but aware of their results in the West District league we knew this would be a challenging game.

With a strong squad ourselves this was always going to be a tense affair. I thought the defending line up of Callum, Tom, Rich, Mitch & Dave were going to be busy today & was right - but never worried boys ;)

The first 10-15 minutes of the game saw good attacking pressure from Grange and it was obvious the team was building on what we'd learnt from our previous game's.

After a couple waves of attack, a rather ambitious deflected lob attempt by myself & continued pressure, we secured a penalty corner. Steve (again) converted this comfortably into a goal to allow us to take the lead.

I'd like to say we then controlled the game but it appeared we'd stirred the beast as Western then upped their game. As the pressure mounted from a few of their key players we started to lose our shape a little and started to be stretched as a team.

At half time we went in 1-0 up, but it felt like they could equalise at any time so needed to try get our shape back and come out fighting. It was up to us as a team to secure the next goal and put the game to bed!...... & the team did exactly that - with around 4 minutes left to play. After what felt like 15 shots/deflections going inches wide each time, Steve managed to get on the end of a loose bobbling ball a yard out from the goal and smash it home allowing everyone a chance to breathe and enjoy those last 4 minutes.

Well played everyone ! Great resolve was shown again and appreciate what everyone did to ensure we got the result as a team.
