... with hopefully various reasons to celebrate on 23rd April

With the possibility of securing the League Title this weekend, a win was imperative against Falkirk. If we won this game and Rottenrow didn't win their fixture, then the Title would be in the bag.

Despite our keeper sleeping in, most of us made it up to Grangemouth High School in plenty time. Lamby decided to go to Graeme High School though, appearing to take it upon himself to do safety surveys of all schools in the area.

After a brief run down of the team and selecting the tried & tested Fould-inson defensive combo, it was time to get underway !!

We applied pressure from the start in the search for the first goal. At times we only had our keeper in our half as we played very attacking hockey. However a very experienced Falkirk defense were able to keep us and the first goal at bay. Again, it appeared our short corner purple patch had ended so tried other variations. The Falkirk keeper was determined and was playing a blinder...

After one very scrappy attack and various defensive saves and deflections, Lamby was able to throw himself onto the loose ball and slap the ball into the back of the goal. Finally we secured the goal we had been working hard for....1-0 !!

At half time we were still only 1-0 up and all understood we needed the next goal to guarantee the victory. However Falkirk again did their best to prevent any easy walkover and thwarted attack after attack. We even had our full back's doing mazey runs into the opposition D to try find a weak link in their defensive armor. It eventually fell to Ben who picked the ball up and after a couple nice touches reverse hit it low and hard into the back boards.

Full Time and we finished 2-0. All that was left now was to go back to the club and wait for the Rottenrow results to come in. It eventually came in they had won 4-3 so looks like we will have to wait until next week to see if we can secure the Double !

Unfortunately this was the last game of the season for me due to weddings and (shock) holidays but hopefully plenty of reasons to celebrate next weekend with the men's dinner, a close friend's wedding and hopefully the Double being confirmed !!!

Thanks to everyone who has helped out this season, either by running the team in my absence, driving &/or umpiring each week.

It's been a very enjoyable season playing with such a strong squad week in & out.
