Sixes tire against feisty Dunfermline

Fresh from their superb away win against high flying ESM the Sixes had another inviting fixture as they travelled to a wet and windy Dunfermline.

Back again to a "full" squad of 11 players, facing a robust Dunfermline side and two home umpires, it was always going to be a challenging match, and this was not helped when the Sixes started slowly conceding a soft goal in the first minute. Despite this setback (not sure what new GK Rich Miller must have thought of his 6's debut at that point!), the Sixes soon woke up and started to build some good attacks and looked very dangerous with both Monty and Ross Paterson going close. The pressure eventually told and Kenny McNally's deflected through ball found Mike White in the circle and he comfortably slipped ball under the home goalkeeper to equalise.

Unfortunately the 6's could not capitalise further on their good possession and fell behind to a controversial home goal, as ball a played from near the top of the circle (was it inside the circle or outside?) found it's way in slow motion into the Grange goal, the home team initially seemed unsure whether to celebrate and claim a goal or not...interestingly the Dunfermline left back (only about 50-60 metres away at the time, and clearly enjoying incredible 20-20 vision) told me the ball was clearly inside the circle when played.

After that the game deteriorated, with hard working Birthday boy Louis Galloway (21 today - and what a fantastic Haribo 21st birthday cake supplied by skipper McNally after the match - never tasted anything like it - or again I hope) and a Dunfermline forward both having a little enforced rest before half time, due some "afters" on the pitch.

The second half was quite open and initially Grange worked hard to get back into the game and again created several good opportunities, but unfortunately these were not capitalised on and gradually the game started to slip away as Grange's 11 started to tire, and this allowed an increasing confident home team some additional opportunities of their own, and they scored further goals with a neat deflection and a well struck short corner (in the last minute) to give a slightly flattering scoreline for the home side.

A disappointing result and a missed opportunity for the Sixes, although the birthday cake was memorable/unforgettable.
