End of (league) season anticlimax

Having won 4 of their last 5 league games (completely the opposite of us) it looked like Stirling Uni were the team on form and would be a much tougher task than our opening game of the season when we scored 5 with little return. However our early pressure exposed an unexpected fragility in the opposition defence and it looked like we were going to control this game fairly comfortably.

Our best early chance came after Ross Taylor picked up a pass down the line from Duncan Graham and did some great work along the baseline that was unfortunate not to result in a goal. However it was Bunker who scored the opener with a characteristically solid strike from a corner that nutmegged the keeper.

Our second was scored by Dodkin, after a mazy run from Maiden drew in several defenders before his slipped pass to Dodkin ended in a shot on the turn which caught the keeper unawares.

Despite the two goal lead we still were not playing well and the second half was positively shabby. Poor passing, lack of energy, missed tackles—not really what we were hoping for. Fortunately the performance was lifted by a great goal from Taylor who broke through the defence before riffling a backstick shot past the keeper to put the game beyond doubt.

That was pretty much the only talking point of the half.

The game had a 'end of season' feel about it. In the end it proved that we deserve a mid-table position and need to improve to threaten the league leaders. If there were any doubts it also reminded us that we are gonna have to do better next week!
