Both teams were very grateful for the stand-ins who helped them to fulfil this rearranged game, as we tried to squeeze in some of the matches which were cancelled after the winter break.
The game started off evenly balanced with neither side having much control of the ball until we lost an early goal. After that we settled down and took control, with some good attacking play which was rewarded when Foulds laid on Taylor who slotted past the helpless `trialist` in goals.
The remainder of the half was very evenly balanced with few clear cut chances for either side.
We continued to have good possession for most of the second half and although we didn't really dominate, we definitely had the upper handy. At least until 5s won a corner and converted with their second attempt. A great strike from McHague left Batchelor with no chance.
Despite this setback we continued to move the ball well and created several chances, but the opposition keeper was a major source of frustration as he stopped us at every turn—quite a promising prospect that young lad! To be fair, we had our own talent on display with Sam Cassels starring at left back and proving that his shorts are large enough to fit Jon Broomhead into his pocket quite comfortably! (for most of the game)
Unfortunately we were unable to score the equaliser we so richly deserved and it was disappointing to finish with no points. Just one would have been much fairer!
We knew we were heading into a run of difficult games but recent performances have shown we are not far off a consistent place in the top half of the table. Just need to raise the standard a little to start to win these games.
