Not too shabby

but having scored plenty of goals in our last couple of matches we were pretty confident that we would not let the Uni run away with an easy victory.

We started really well and created several chances including a corner which McNally deflected over the bar (no, not on purpose). As expected the Uni were fast on the break and a few stray passes left the defence scrambling for cover, but Miller was on hand to block their efforts.

There were no goals in the first half and it was an evenly matched game with both sides moving the ball well and keeping the pace high—not easy for us against the teenagers.

The second half followed in the same pattern and it looked like this was going to be our first 0-0 game this season as chances were carved out but not taken by either side. Fortunately Mike White was around to make the difference in front of goal.

McNally made a mess of a cross from the right but Graham picked up the sklaff and fed it into the circle where White launched himself to put the ball past the keeper. That started a period of sustained Grange pressure and it looked like we were going to score a few more as Christison, Monty, Dodkin and White combined to open up the defence on several occasions. A series of 4 corners should also have resulted in a goal but we were unable to break through.

Inevitably the Uni came back at us and when they were awarded a corner they did not squander the opportunity and moved the ball around the goals before deflecting it in at the back post. Disappointing to go back to level, but we did well to keep it at all square as the Uni stepped up the pressure.

No more goals were scored and a draw was a fair result, and probably one we would have accepted at the start of the game. Our performance was again characterised by loads of effort, nice passing and the odd display of talent to keep the purists happy. Not too shabby.
