Any pre-match doubts were settled within a couple of minutes as Dunbar cut through the defence to slot home the opener. Good passing between McNally and Foulds set Dunbar up to take on the defender and slot the ball past the keeper.
A second, again by Dunbar, followed shortly after. This one came with a bit of help from their umpire who unwittingly teed the ball up for him at the back post when it looked like it was going out of play.
A good spell of possession followed and it was no really surprise when White scored our third and Rory Hardie made it 4 before half-time. The only surprise was that Dunbar failed to complete his hat-trick when the chance fell to him.
4-0 at half-time. This is where great managers justify their salaries. With the game 'won' McNally decided to take the opportunity to change the formation to a more attacking 4-3-3 to give the forwards more options. #epicfail
Perhaps it was just because Carnegie came out much stronger in the second half—as they had done in the first match—but we found ourselves under pressure and unable to clear our lines or hold on to the ball. Mistakes and mishits gave them the ball at the top of our circle and they scored to give them a glimmer of hope. That should have given us the motivation to pick up our game, but even reverting to the original formation wasn't enough to lift the malaise that had infected us at half-time.
The remainder of the game was a non-event. "Nothing to see here, sir, move along" as the imaginary policeman might have said to the bored (imaginary) onlookers. So a game of two halves in which a good start won the game for us, but this won't be enough in the coming weeks as we play the stronger sides in the league.
